Michele Quaranta, 7th  Dan Aikikai, was born on 24 December, 1953 in Forlimpopoli, small Italian town between famous Bologna and Rimini. At the age of 6 he left with his parents to France, where he then finished his high school education and later has moved to Basel in Switzerland.

Michele Quaranta has been practicing Aikido since 1972 (a dojo in Aikikai Basel)  under his 1st  sensei Werner Hinterman. Mr. Hinterman influenced him mostly in the field of philosophy. At that period Mr. Quaranta frequented many seminars of great Aikido  masters such as Tamura sensei and Tada sensei.

He met Masatomi Ikeda sensei for the first time in 1977 and has been since 1985 his direct student. Under his patronage he could fully improve his technical and didactical skills in Aikido. As his assistant and personal Uke he travelled with Ikeda sensei to many seminars through Europe.

Since the beginning of 90´s he has been responsible for technical and didactical  improvement in Aikido (still under patronage of Ikeda sensei) and has been giving seminars mostly in central and eastern Europe.

At present is Quaranta sensei  technical director of Aikikai Slovakia, technical director of Croatian aikido association, member of technical committee in Aikido federation Serbia and Montenegro and leading a part of Aikido federation in Poland. In Switzerland he is leading two Aikido dojos in Basel and Neuchatel.

In 2011 Quaranta sensei has left ACSA and with some of the Ikeda sensei´s former students has founded a new organization Aikido Switzerland in order to be able to develop and spread the legacy of Ikeda sensei. In 2012 Aikido Switzerland became the Hombu recognition.

Michele Quaranta speaks fluently Italian, French, German, Spanish and English. His hobbies are football (a part of his career spent as a professional player and coach)  and music (rock, funky, jazz, blues, raeggae a classic music).
